P.E.I First Flight - Our First plane Ride - Prince Edward Island

Here's a video of our first plane ride. It happened last fall. I was frightened to go up, but didn't want to miss out on the opportunity. My stomach flopped once the plane took off, but I kept it ok for a while... then it flipped and flopped and we had to turn around. I almost made it to 15 minutes though lol

I'm a PiBoIdMo Winner!

Well, I finished PiBoIdMo Picture Book Idea Month and it was THE best fun ever! I joined the facebook group which is filled with so many wonderful people. They are the best. Tara Lazar was our faithful and terribly busy leader, who lead pretty much all of us to victory! Thank you, Tara :)

I came up with the 30 new ideas, which I had written out, most with beginnings, middles, and endings, but then there were about 30 other ideas that just popped and were one liners if that. I didn't want to lose my ideas so I wrote while it was fresh in my head :)

I found my ideas would just come to me as I went about my day. One idea came to me when my 6 year old was helping me make my bed. Actually, most of my ideas came straight from my kids, esp my 6 year old. She's a great help to keep the story going and if I was stuck, she'd help me through it, or my other kids. <3

I also get my ideas from songs, or going shopping, or baking, or even reading. If something comes to your head, just write it down and don't stop. It's there for a reason <3

Now, I'm working on critiquing. I've been doing it now for about 2 months, thanks so my dear friend who's like a sister to me. Wendy J. Whittingham She's an illustrator who just has her first book out with author Valerie Sherrard! and this is their beautiful book...

Isn't it soooo pretty!! I can't wait to read it :)

I'm still writing and sending out manuscripts with hopes of soon finding homes for them :) and I do believe it will happen :) I'm also doing critiques and learning so much from them and making so many new friends. 2011 has been a truly wonderful blessing to me.

Which brings me to my Thankfulness and Positiveness

I'm thankful for my newly found cousins in Ontario. I've only found them this fall and they are THE sweetest, kindest people ever. It all started with a picture and me wanting to find old friends that happened to be our cousins. I love them with all my heart and am so thankful for them. They helped get me through a terrible death in our family a few weeks ago and I am truly blessed to have them in my life. One lady, in particular *, Ann, * is like a sister to me. (if you click her name, it'll take you to her site, which she's still working on, but it's still wonderful) I just love her, we have so much in common and she is coming to stay with me when we have our family reunion :)

Positiveness is hard... It's so hard to say something positive about yourself... but I'll try... thinking now :/...

Ok, I can do a pretty OK job writing in verse :) There, I said it! lol wow, that's hard :) it's all thanks to my sister in law, Elaine. She asked me to write a children's poem last year, I posted about it ;) Well, that got the ball rolling and now I can't stop lol <3 I love writing in verse. It's so weird when I thought I'd never be able to do it. It helps when someone has faith in you <3

So who's going to be brave and post their Thankfulness and Positiveness with me? Don't leave me here all alone!

PiBoIdMo Here I Come!

It's been a while since I've posted. Life, as usual, got in the way. Work this summer was busy, then kids in school, you know the drill ;) I have been writing, though :) Have a pretty little story written in verse all ready to go. Say a prayer, send energy, send luck, whatever it'll take to get it accepted <3

I've entered into PiBoIdMo this month. You have to come up with an idea for a picture book every day, then write out what you can of it. You can think up any number of ideas a day too. I think it's quite fun.

Last year I did NaNoWriMo in November, but found it too much. I'm using NaNo to keep me motivated though :) and it's working great, esp with the Warrior Chat Group and the Word Wars there.

Have fallen behind today, and have a half hour before getting my 6 year old ready for bed... grabbing pencil and paper and away I go to the land of .......... <3

I just remembered :) you thought I'd forget, didn't you ;) ... it's time for Positiveness and Thankfulness:

Five things I have to complain/brag/comment about?

I thought this would be fun :) So am giving it a whirl...

1. like Tee, I have oodles of ideas in my head for stories... literally oodles. I just don't have the time to write them all out. Yes, not working would be a wonderful thing right now, but I have too to keep food on the table lol

2. I can make one heck of a design for a garden. I am not one to toot my own horn as many who know me know, but I'm doing it now and it feels good :) I love to shape designs in garden beds and they do look quite nice, if I must say.

3. I am saddened to hear my old school has been demolished. I am complaining that our government is the pits when they decided to close, then demolish our small schools. Big mistake there people!

4. My second book is all written and awaiting a home. No more self publishing for me. I've learned my lesson!

5. Lastly, I have a great circle of Kindred Souls with me, I treasure them with every fiber of my being.

Did it, Tee :) It's kinda like my positiveness and thankfullness ... which I JUST remembered I've let slip, so I end this post with my 1 positive thing about myself and my 1 thankful thing...

I am a good decorator. (yep, hard to write, because it's so hard to have faith in yourself and even harder to tell others! lol)

I am thankful for my hands. (and pray for anyone who has lost a limb)

It snowed here on PEI today. I wasn't happy about it, as I really want to get out there and garden, but If it had to snow, I'm happy with it. It's so pretty now :) My daughter took a picture and it reminded me of a poem. Here it is...

If you must slight me, let it be the touch

That snow in April, falling soft and white

Gives to the blossoms delicate and light,

So I don’t suffer, it won’t harm me much.

If you must spite me, let it be as quick

As snow in April falling, not to last.

Lies just one moment then, like mist is past,

So it won’t sting me; I won’t feel the prick.

If you must fight me, let the tender blows

Like snow in April, make no lasting mark

As soft, spring sunshine, on the grassy park,

Stylish Blogger Award

Yes, it's me. :) It's been a looooong time since I've written... but it's been so busy here. I came up with an idea for a children's picture book. Worked on it, did some changes, fixed it up and finished it. Worked on the query with help from some dear friends <3 then worked on it again and again lol... It has to be so perfect! Then, today, they were sent! They are now on their way. What will happen? Will someone love it? I hope so!! :D

In the meantime, I have other projects to work on and love to work on them :) Writing is so relaxing, but then again, bothers the heck out of me at times, and when I take a break, I'm dying to get right back into it! Such opposite feelings but I love it :)

I had a nice surprise in my mail box on facebook the other day. A dear friend, Tee G. Ayer , a fellow warrior of mine (As I mentioned before, a wonderful group of ladies who are a wealth of information and hearts overflowing with love) . has awarded me with a Stylish Blogger Award. This is so very kind of her! I was thrilled to the bone when I saw it. Now I hope I post it correctly ;)

Stephen King's On Writing Really works!

Yes, this shocks me. I am not a lover of horror movies, books, or even stories around the bon fire. I avoid them as much as I can. Until my warriors mentioned to read King's book. These warriors are smart and I know that a book mentioned is a piece of gold. Stephen King inspires Denise of Ingleside to write!!

As you know, I detested the beginning, and skipped it. Toolbox was next, which I commented on earlier. Next is On Writing... this is wonderful. He's making me see my writing in a whole new light. I see the mistakes I'm making and so want to get to work on my WIP (work in progress) but want to finish up the reading first. On writing is great for inspiration. I will finish it tonight, but it will be a keeper here at Ingleside. That's a good thing for King lol More to come on this book as soon as I finish it :)

Next book on the list is The Complete Handbook of Novel Writing

A dear friend gifted this book to me and I'll always treasure it. Sue Grafton's piece is first on the list to read. She writes about journaling. I also see Margaret Atwood has an article in it, that I'd like to read. Also, Stephen King *grin* and Donald Maass.

Almost there with the new blogs design :) Loving what my friend is doing and so can't wait for you all to see it :)

Spring is almost here, I can smell it and it's so calling me. I've got to get all I can done before gardening season hits and takes most of my time, so must write on!

Yes, I'm reading On Writing by Stephen King.

I was hesitant to read it as it was Stephen King and I cannot watch his movies... let alone read his books! But... this is a book about the writing process... HIS writing process... so i dug my heels in, opened the cover and began. 3 forwards! That was a lot... but i didn't actually mind as he kept them nice and short... I liked that. I was thinking, Hey! He's not that bad :) He even mentioned a book for me to look for... The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White.

Looks great, esp when E.B. White is in it, as you know i was reading his books... again lol

2nd forward... Stephen King said the word DIVINE! Wow! I couldn't wait to get on with this surprising book :) I begin chapter one... Poor Steve gets hurt when he was 2... how on earth did he remember this?? I felt sorry for him. I keep on. Beer drinking husband... hmmm ... feelers are twitching... Eula-Beulah... uh-oh!! Trouble here... what a horrible babysitter! I keep on. Death... splattering.. green... oh my.. what have i gotten myself into... next part finishes me off.. poison ivy... in unmentionable parts... that was it! The language.. The horrible descriptions... I was not impressed at all.

So, what do I do?... I post to my wonderful Writing Warriors always welcoming new members, btw ;)

I find out I'm not alone, and it's all right to skip to the next chapter - Toolbox.

What did i think?... I LOVED IT! A couple harsh words, but it was all writing helps... and such help it was! He's a wonder, that's for sure. I wrote down all i could in my writing journal which i'm still keep, thankfully :)

I'll write some of his helps in another post once I gather up some more.

I finished Toolbox the other night, but haven't started the next chapter. I need a fix... a Lucy Maud Montgomery fix.. and this reading can still go in with my writing works, as I am learning beginnings, characters, paragraphing, etc. ;) and now I'll relearn with LMM :) for calmness, peace, and kind words. Plus as an added bonus, it's my @1935 edition :) never read this one yet !

I don't have my camera here so googled for a pic of my book and found it right here.. Library and Archives of Canada It has a great write up on the book. Lots more books there to search for also.

I want to end with my Positive and Thankfulness... it's a good idea to do this every day. Say one thing positive about yourself and one thing that you are Thankful for. It's very hard to say a positive thing about yourself...but you'll feel better... I promise :)

I'm an awesome reader. I can't imagine not reading a delicious, friendly book. I am proud to have many books around my Ingleside.

I am thankful for the snow...most hate it and despise it, but I'm thankful I live on PEI where there are winters and beautiful snow.

Go grab a hot chocolate then a nice book. One that your working on reading, or one that you have been trying to read and no time. 15 minutes... that's all you need... sit and relax...

Don't forget your fluffy blanket to cozy up in!

New Look Coming... Twitter Update...

I can't wait til you all see the new header that a wonderful friend is making for me. It's going to have some of my favorite things in it :) Anne of Green Gables, Lucy Maud, butterflies, PEI, fairies.. God's love.. : all wrapped up into one beautiful header.

As for the name, it's been voted and Denise Bruce of Ingleside has won :) I like that, as it's me. No one else has this name for a blog and it's got "ME" written all over it. I've been using this handle for many, many years now and a wonderful writing friend told me to use it as the blog's title. I never thought of it, I should say, but once she said it, it just fit :)

  So this post will be boring, as no pictures, but soon. I have ideas for the blog too... ideas that I like and I'm sure you will too :)

  I joined Twitter too! @DeniseBruce22 is my handle there. Denise of Ingleside was too long.. argh... I'm still getting the hang of it, but getting there... and have found some wonderful kindred spirits who love Anne, books, gardening, life, God.. it's great :)

  Still reading up on writing books and tips. Finished Nancy Lamb's book and now reading A.A. Milne's Winnie-The-Pooh

Hey! It's a pic lol... I've read it before, but am now reading it to learn more about 3rd person omniscient, which is how I'm writing Rilla's Ramblings. I'll be reworking it soon... so excited about that and so can't wait!

  I also am keeping my treasured book by Lucy Maud Montgomery close to me to keep me inspired; The Alpine Path.

Still working on Nancy Lamb's book

Yes, i'm still reading and doing the reading exercises within the book. I've been stuck at one book called The Light In The Forest by Conrad Richter so far i can't find it, so will skip this one for now and go on to the next chapter... Eleven, Scenes.

I'm really loving her book and learning a lot. Nancy Lamb makes you think. She Is bringing me to new heights in my thinking and writing. I thought, at first, that i wouldn't like all this extra reading homework within her book, but it really does help to be the sleuth answering her questions and finding the structures, etc that she's mentioned. I get to the point that i can't wait to get back to her book while reading the others lol

Today now, a friend on my wonderful warrior's group on facebook sent a link to a great site with a lot of information and help... Robin L. LaFevers   She is a writer of a series of books that i have yet to buy, but am definitely going too... It's her Theodosia Series... Here's the website to buy it.  Looks great!

  After doing some reading on her site and writing out her Characterization Worksheet,   I found on facebook that a friend from my Warrior Chat group had a website..Robert Sloan. He's a wonderful artist and writer. I love his site, inspiring and full of tons of information and step by step oil pastel paintings.   You can also find him on facebook and twitter. You'll love him :)

  After Nancy Lamb's book, I'll be working with my novel by using Writing the Breakout Novel Workbook by Donald Maass

I'm excited to work with it. I've also had Rilla's Ramblings critiqued and am so wanting to work on it, but Nancy Lamb comes first :) I'm up for the challenge! Something i love to do :)

We had a wonderful Christmas here at Ingleside. It was very busy though. A lot of cleaning, baking, and shopping, the usual for Christmas. It was a constant craziness that was going on and, soon, I began to get sick on the 23rd, and am still sick this evening. I'm getting there though :) ..

Here's a pic of our tree late Christmas Eve...

  We went down home for Christmas Eve, and had a very nice time. Christmas morning was an exciting time... this year we delayed the opening by having breakfast. The kids want the present opening to last longer, so we ate breakfast, then looked at the stockings, then while the kids were busy with their stocking stuffers, my husband and I got the turkey ready and in the oven. The day flew by quickly but nicely. The one sad thing was Prince Edward Island was not covered in snow... we had another green Christmas. Great for driving, but not great for Christmas.

  New Years Eve we spent at home due to my being sick. We were ok with that, as we had lots of yummy things to eat which we love and we watched a movie also and played games.

  With my writing, i was up to 70,000 words and stopped for Christmas. I'm starting back to it tonight. I'm also working on Rilla's Ramblings and learning great things with a great, dear new friend of mine. Great ideas are coming for a remake of Rilla's Ramblings... something i feel very excited over :)

  My Nanowrimo novel that's at 70,000 words isnt' finished yet. Still a ways to go with it yet. I really do love how it's going though, it's becoming a part of me. I'm learning great things with my nano friends at this Warrior Chat Facebook Writers Group  led by a wonderful lady, Lia Keyes   Very nice, kind and knows tons about writing. I've met a great many people on this group, and they are very dear to me now. I am learning so much with them, esp one lady in particular :)

  Tonight i'll be starting to read a book a dear friend gave me for Christmas, one that will help guide me, and help me with my writing. It's called The Writers Guide to Crafting Stories for Children   Here's the Canadian Amazon site for that book.

I also bought Stephen King's book On Writing it's an autobiography, plus lessons on writing. I've read some great reviews about it so thought i'd give it a try.

I was also reading this book, The Distant Hours by Kate Morton, author of one of my favorite books, The Forgotten Garden. I gave it to my friend for Christmas and she told me she couldn't put it down... i loved hearing that. I'm absolutely loving mine so far as well. It's about an old children's book and old family secrets , some war, and how people can be brought together, or separated by twists of fate.

I'll add more books that i received tomorrow. Lots more to go yet ;)

Day 10 of NaNoWriMo... and a sick little girl

  Well, this weekend was busy. Rilla came off the bus with a very high fever. She was and is still sick all weekend. Her fever finally broke on Monday morning or late Sunday, can't remember right now :) but i was very thankful indeed!

  It was a couple nights of no sleep, but i did get some writing in. I'm just about 400 words short of 20,000!!! I can't believe i made it to 1,000 let alone 20,000!! I'm very pleased! oh yeah!! I'm really loving how the story is falling into place :)

  I've been finding it hard the past couple of days to write, as my hand is not playing fair with me. That ganglion cyst has come back with a vengeance. It's making my hand all tingly, so this afternoon, i thought up an idea ;) I wrapped up my lower arm inside my heating pad :) and it helped! Tingling stopped! I also put on those magnetic bracelets.

  I'm so used to writing on paper... this writing on the computer is so hard on the wrists.

  Just a short note to let you know how i'm doing and to remind myself too in case i forget lol ... but i must run along and finish getting caught up as i lost yesterday.

  oh yes! our Christmas tree! i almost forgot, it's up now :) started it last night and finished it when emily and avery got home from school. it looks very pretty, i'll take a picture soon, did some different ideas with it that i liked :)

Day 4 of NaNoWriMo... i'm still in it :)

Today I introduced a new character. A man. He didn't want to cooperate. He kept changing his idea of what he wanted to be like haha ... but finally he liked what he was and I wrote. and wrote... and wrote... now, i'm a mom with 4 kids and life gets in the way. Painting, clothes, yes, and even food ;) but i'm at 1800 words for today, so far and don't want to stop yet ;)

I really should be working on Rilla's Ramblings #3 but haven't been able to do that for a few days. I will though, once the painting is finished :) but then it's Christmas decorating... but that'll only take a few days :) but then there's Christmas baking, and shopping for Christmas presents and letters... and and ... it'll all fall in place... no matter how busy it gets... it'll all get finished :)

so far i've written... 7629 words!!! a total record for me!! I'm THAT thrilled!! I so can't believe I'm writing a novel... didn't think i could do it, but I'm loving it and so loving how the story is going.

Rilla is LOVING Kindergarten!! She's even sounding out words now... every single words she sees!! :) it's the cutest thing :) My friend made a wallpaper of Rilla for book 2... no title yet for it... must do that too. My First NaNoWriMo is Beginning Soon!

OH what have i gotten myself into?? Writing a novel that's 50,000 words! My first Rilla's Ramblings was app 3,000 words! EEK!! I've written part 2 and working on part 3 now... no titles for them yet :)

Plus it's been 3 whole months since I've blogged... yeah, sometimes you won't see a capital, it's because my shift key is acting up :) .... this summer has been long and hard... i'm very thankful it's over... I've had a lot of changes too... but we won't go into those... I'm just putting my trust in God that things will work out for the best. Where would we be without our dear Lord to guide and hold us when we're down? :) all good.

so i'm just going to restart this blog as if i never left ;)

So I've joined up with NaNoWriMo (hey i remembered how to do links!) (yay me!) I've got to write 50,000 words from November 1st til November 30th... it's something I've never done before, but i want this challenge... i really, really do. I'm pumped to start it up :) I've been working on a story all day today, plus painting and tidying, etc... I'm loving the story I've come up with :) but can't say anything about it *wink* yet :D

Now, one more bit of news... My baby has started Kindergarten! Yes... my biggest change this year... being home alone... no Rilla to follow me around, no Rilla to help me bake, no Rilla to come down the stairs in the morning jumping into my arms, I could go on, but I'm making myself sad, so i won't :) I miss her... BUT it is quiet and i'm finding this quiet is nice... and i am getting a lot of things done that I've would never have gotten done before... AND the place stays clean after i clean it... gee, why do I always feel bad after writing that??? She loves Kindergarten, and her teacher is an absolute doll... Rilla is in a safe place... I'm happy for her.

I didn't do any writing all summer... just no time for it, plus, i didn't have the want for it. I have the want now and it feels good again. I did miss it...

My gardens are a total disaster... will I get to them this fall?? ?I just don't know... so much work and I've no time... but we'll see what happens.

Must go work on Rilla's Ramblings 3 now :) I'm at an exciting part :) and something NICE is going to happen!!

First Book Signing!

It's been a while since i was on here. Biggest news is I'm having my first book signing tomorrow... during Canada Day activities up here. I'm very, very nervous! But will be glad i did it, once it's over :) I haven't a clue about it... it's all a learning game... but i'm willing to learn. I've been feeling excited and very nervous about it for days lol

Rilla has decided to go to Kindergarten.. big step... hard mostly on mama i think ... it'll be a hard day, but good for her.

I met my friend who lives in Finland the day before. We had a very nice kindredly time... we ended the day with a delicious walk in the rain to Wayne's Heaven :) I gave her one of my books, and she gave me one well known book from Finland. We loved it! It's called Who Will Comfort Toffle? by Tove Jansson... Rilla loved the little story.

Other new things happening, but can't say them yet :) soon though!

3rd Query Sent!

#3 query is gone to the land of what ifs... i gave them a 2 week exclusive. Seems like when i put that in the query i do hear from them within that time. This publishing company wanted the manuscript too... we'll see how it goes.

It's raining on PEI today. I was hoping to get out and garden, but i guess not. I got a lot done yesterday though and i'm happy for that. So that means i get to work on book 3 :) I'm happy with that lol A great day to curl up with a blanket, paper and pencil :) plus pencil sharpener and eraser for sure! lol No computer for me when i do the first writing. I love the old fashioned way.

Exam week for my daughter. Must keep her at it lol ...teenagers!

I'm going to start posting 10 blessings when i blog...

Just had news that a dear kindred of mine lost her mama last night.

My heart aches thinking of her pain. It was so sudden. Such a shock to the family.

I wrote a poem for her.

My dear friend lost her mama today

I cannot be there with her

I cannot take away her pain

But I can always pray.

Pray for strength in the days to come

Guidance, understanding and love

But most of all a peace.

It will come. I know.

I've never met this kindred of mine,

but, we would know each other!

This is awesome! 2 days of beautiful weather for us :) We'll soon be spoiled. wow! It seems like it took forever to get some sun here on the island.

What am i up too now.... first... working on a little something with a dear friend... don't want to post about it yet, it's a surprise :) it's HARD, but it'll be worth it ! My friend and i worked through chat for so long yesterday, and i kept the poor fellow up so late, but, hopefully it'll be worth it. and i thank my friend so much. Your help is greatly appreciated. I couldn't do it without you.

I'm also working on the 3rd book... then i'll have 2 in the wings like i'm supposed to :) I've been getting fairy names, etc. from my friends, and family... it's great :) once someone gets thinking the ideas flow as to what fairy they'd want to be.

If you have a fairy name and what you'd want to be the fairy of, just let me know and i might use it in future books. I'm going to definitely try to use everyone's fairy.

My hummingbird pal is having a great time outside... he has a wife too :) they are a beautiful pair. They have 2 favorite perches... an old sign post used for bird feeders, and a tall stump, about 5 feet high... why so high?

well, we were taking lights off my beautiful hawthorn tree a couple years ago... the limb accidentally was pulled too hard and snapped the tree at the top, eventually killing it :( ... i was so sad. I couldn't watch as 1 year later, when we knew my baby wouldn't make it, my husband had to cut it down. I told him to cut it at a certain point. i couldn't bear to part with it. It's my tree that grew out of the car after all! (another story lol)

My Gardens are FULL!! They loved the rain we've had and have totally filled up... waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much on me though! They even took over my edge.

and one of the view... the garden there on the right... did have a beautiful edge... but i must redo it... it didn't last long when the flowers grow out. at least they are happy :D

Books Sold Out At Indigo!

I couldn't believe when i received the email today... my books all sold and they want more ... it's just a start, but a nice start all the same. It's so surreal... I still can't believe it. I was thrilled :D So looks like tomorrow I might be going to town to deliver more books. eek! Hopefully the rain will leave me alone til i get home.

Also had an email from the librarian with some news... I'll know more next week if they will put my book in the libraries... I hope so! Many thanks to my friend for giving me this information. Muchly appreciated :)

I'm working on book 3 of Rilla's Rambles Series... I'm loving the idea of this one so far... esp the beginning. I loved the beginning of the others too i guess lol Still a ways to go with this one, but it's getting there. I love how things come together when you don't expect it.

While i was at Basin Head, i asked the ladies to give me their fairy thoughts... what fairy they would want to be and their names... well when i was driving home, i was thinking of this book... #3... and the idea came to me thanks to Basin Head! I love how God works in these little ways. It's little ways He shows Himself to us. We just have to be willing to "see" Him.

Also working on finding out how to get my books online with Indigo... more complicated than i thought, but I'm up for the challenge :D

First Classroom Visit today... and 2nd Rejection!

I had a call the other day to do a reading of my book at the school. I nervously said yes. Ended up being late... tried hard to get there early, but Rilla lost her shoe, the car window was down all night and it rained, her car seat wasn't in tight in the car, she was taking her time eating.. oh it all seemed to be on me at once. But! Eventually we were there :D

I was at home soon after starting to read the book. It went well, i think. The kids had ideas about the book and what was to come, as it isn't ended yet... there's more to add to the story :) i loved their questions and they had great ideas. Their teacher is amazing and so kind... she has one big heart.

I also dropped some of my books off at the local fisheries museum and day park.

I signed a couple books while i was there also. I asked the ladies for their fairy names, and what they would like to be a fairy of for future use, and it turned out that i needed the museum for book #3! So i started writing them in last night.

I am going to get a lady who makes a gorgeous Teacher Tote to make me one too. It's beautiful... The blog is called A Craft A Day Here's a pic of the tote...

So Much To Do, So Little Time...

I have a lot to say in a short time, so i'll just dig in...

Let's see... my writing... I've started working on the 3rd in the Rilla's Rambles Series; just working on the plot for now. I'm loving this story... then again i love them all lol Ever since i started it, my mind thought it'd be a 5 book series. I'll probably stick to that, and if i had to add to it, that'd be no problem.

Rilla had her 5th birthday on Saturday (the party that is) She wanted a Barbie Cake... my youngest son, Seth we'll call him, was at a friends for the night; my oldest daughter, Theodosia, was at work til 9, and my oldest son, Tobias was working also and cutting grass. I was left to do this cake alone... it was flopping and flipping everywhere... i tried hard to keep it level, but the minute i turned my back to wash the icing off my hands it flopped again... finally i thought of the sticks for covering chocolates and i stuck 4 of them through the 4 layers of the cake. I stopped around 11:30 ... couldn't do anymore after cleaning all day long... in the morning i went to the little town up here to get a barbie... none in the store... except a guy which Rilla wanted on her cake lol took him home, put him in the cake and he was way too tall... so we hunted for a broken doll and found snowwhite. I fixed her up and finished the cake in time to do more tidying with Seth, Theodosia and Tobias and Rilla all pitching in. Here's how the cake turned out... pic courtesy of Theodosia's friend Lynne :)

Not great, but close enough. I added the wings from another barbie of Rilla's... the wand was a sucker from a friend too, i just dipped it in the icing... Theodosia's idea :D the butterflies around the cake are from the guy barbie we bought.

NOT! lol... I'm still working on book 2... it's hard to make sure you have the right tense throughout the story, but i love trying :) Allie i think you'll be impressed :D

I'm getting there, almost finished then i can send it to my dear proofreader ;) who i cherish very much :)

I also have a little story in my mind from Rilla's dream... as she was telling it to me, I had the feeling it was meant to be a book. I'll be working on that tonight :)

It's cold and windy and rainy on PEI today/tonight. Not a great day, but a reason to be inside getting stuff finished. My friend, Strawberry, made My Island poem and picture into a beautiful wallpaper. I love it! Thank you so much, Strawberry! It's beautiful.

Town Day

Well, it was one of those days... a trip to town means... pack Rilla's bag for in case of car sickness... pack facecloths with soap on them in baggies for our hands. Pack treats for eating. Make sure cards are ready, Ipod is charged, and phone is charged. Get Rilla all ready, and me too :D and make sure Mark has gas in the car. And then we were off. I was tired just getting into the car lol

Picked up Emily from school and then we were off. Oh i love ipods and driving long distances and thankfully i get to put the music up loud. Dancing in the car isn't easy lol but fun :)

Didn't get any stitch of writing done today at all. That's ok though, one day won't hurt. On the drive to town , though, i spied my dancing tree again. I adore this tree... it looks like it's holding up it's skirts, i want to write a story about it, just not sure how, but it'll come to me.

Tomorrow is getting things cleaned up for Rilla's birthday on Saturday. Lots to clean here.

I did get another poem written the other day. A friend sent a pretty picture to me. A lady walking on the beach. I thought she reminded me of myself, and as i looked at the photo, I wanted to write about it. I'll see if i can find the photo and if i can share it. Oh! i watched The Fall 2006 movie last night... LOVED IT!
Plot... In a hospital on the outskirts of 1920s Los Angeles, an injured stuntman begins to tell a fellow patient, a little girl with a broken arm, a fantastical story about 5 mythical heroes. Thanks to his fractured state of mind and her vivid imagination, the line between fiction and reality starts to blur as the tale advances.

I would definitely watch this one again.

Victoria Day aka PicNic Day.... and Lost Gone Forever :(

Today is Victoria Day ... also known as Picnic day... so the kids and I and my sons friend packed up and headed off for our day's jaunt to our very own babbling brook. Had to wear a little coat, as there was a little chill in the air up here. We start off after making some fresh fiddle diddles for the day of course. We get through the warehouses parking area, then the tiny field behind... cross the tiny little ditch which didn't need our homemade bridge as it was dried up. There's always water in it, but not today. Dandelions everywhere! So we go fast so as to avoid the bees busily gathering pollen. I tell Rilla to walk swiftly and not dwaddle because a snake could pop out anytime in the long grass... we would have like to have seen one though :D ... so away we go, through the clover field lined in more dandelions. We approach the Croaking Frog Pond which is eerily quiet... on closer inspection we spy the pond dried up :( both sides! Now the right side was HUGE, and here it's dried up too. I knew \PEI was dry, but didn't realize it was this dry... how sad for our dear frogs.

After our disappointment over our frog pond we trudged along. Next field was The Tripping Field... weeds that long to trip us... if they win, they puff out a smoke that puts us to sleep, we must move swiftly! and we did, without any tripping... to the next field.. the Dead Forest... as we come nearer, it's grown! It's not dead anymore but teaming with life. This made it harder to walk though lol and i had to carry Rilla a long way to cross the dead forest.

We finally reach the opening to the brooks little woods... but first must carefully crawl over the fallen logs... not an easy job as Avery can tell you... he stepped on the first one and down he went as the log was rotting away. He got some scratches, but trudged along... Emily would cross the next log, and i'd lift Rilla over the logs to Emily's awaiting arms... slow going but safe :D finally we reach our brook! Marsh marigolds out in bloom... and... yes you guess it... BLACK FLIES!! We had to turn around :( Why they started then i'll never know...so we headed back home and had our picnic on the living room floor... and imagined the clouds and sky and bumblebees with us. It was nice, though.

Now the important news... Lost... SPOILER ALERT... it's over, gone, caput... i'm going to miss it soooooooooooooooooooo much!!! So many questions still to be answered too.

I loved how the couples remembered each other, esp Sun and Jin. I knew they were thankful. I wasn't happy that it ended up that they were all dead though... that was too much. Oh my heart while watching this show last night! Up one minute, down the next... happiness, madness, sadness... utter sadness... it totally wore me out lol... I cried and cried.. i was so sad for Jack... he was so heart broken to find out he was dead, then he accepted it. I loved that, but hated it too. It was very touching to show his eye closing as he took his last beautiful breath :(

I found out that we'll find out what happened to Walt in the DVD later on, i think it comes out in August... i'll look and link it up... I definitely want to get the lost dvd set. so many other questions still sit in my mind, but eventually we'll find them out.

I have a field of dandelions i want to get a picture of, i'll try to remember tomorrow, it's very pretty for dandelions :)

Having a Missing Lost Night

A blogger posted a funny video about Lost... then that got me searching you tube for other videos... now most of them are sad, and that got me sad lol I'm am really going to be Lost without Lost :( I've been watching it every week for 6 years now... that's a long time. Sunday is going to be sad. Just one of those obstacles in our lives. Gee, it's just a show.. i'm such a wimp lol

Happy stuff?... I revised the little story i wrote yesterday one more time.. I was reading it to someone and realized a couple more mistakes, and fixed them.

..............Rilla had a dream, about a monster stealing her hot chocolate... so i'm going to write about it. I think it'd make a cute book :D

............. I rearranged my living room to suit my desk... it's in front of the picture window. I get to write and look out onto my front yard and my ocean view. A little hummingbird sat there all afternoon with me as i wrote. He was so darling. My little inspiration <3

............ My family is happy and healthy. That's the best happiness ... There, i'm happy again : D ... now i'll have to do this again Sunday night :( lol

Today as my hubby and I were watching a hummingbird, he happened to notice my spirea bush with a birch tree growing out of it. He mentions that he'll have to separate them to help them grow better. I say a hearty NO! They can't be separated! They love each other... Then it hit me! I gasped... and said Yes! I'll turn it into a story .. dh walks away shaking his head lol... and i get busy tidying up the kitchen, get some books out for youngest daughter to work on and then i get to write... i finally finished it and sent it off to my dear allie to proofread. It's just a short story. not sure what to do with it now, but i'll find a home someplace.

Isn't it something how our Dear Lord works? This idea comes to me on a rainy, wet day. I wouldn't have been able to work on it if it wasn't wet outside because i'd have to garden. But it was wet out there, and i had the idea for a story and i wrote. Even had to take time to pick up my teeny bopper. I'm very blessed. and very thankful.

dh also took up one of our old school desks for Youngest Daughter to work on for her homeschooling. She washed it off and dried it while i did the dishes. We filled it with her precious books and she happily sits to start working ... She didn't want to stop lol

it was a great day all together. I'm so happy to have that story. I've always loved my spirea and birch.

I used the morning to clean, then made dinner for the men, and outside for Rilla and I ... until the black flies were so horrible that we hadn't any choice but come back inside. I didn't really mind. A new book arrived in the mail and i was dying to open it up :)

I've been writing some old memories down in my notebook... anything that i could remember for IF i need the ideas.

A dear friend mentioned to me that it might be best if i change the real names of my family on here. I'm going to do that tonight, plus take out a little more information about myself. Just to make it safer for my family on here. I'm very thankful she mentioned it to me :)

Tonight is for writing... i'm going to try to write 15 minutes per day. Didn't want it to happen at night, but I've no choice on that right now lol

I've also got to read my second book aloud, didn't get to finish that yet.

My mother sent me the newspaper clippings of Lucy Maud's Island Hymn being made Prince Edward Island's National Anthem!! I'm so happy for her!

Well, we finally had a beautiful day. It's still beautiful out, but i'm too sore to do any more gardening lol... My Youngest had her dolly out with her in her pram, and also helped me with my gardens.
Here's a before pic of the first garden we worked on... My poor pictures are so bright, I've tried clicking everything on the camera, but it just doesn't want to work. I'll have to read the manual i guess. But I'll just post what i have... Here's the after... I edged this one. Plus my shadow lol... this one looks better than the other one, probably because it's coming on evening.

Going to try posting from my picasa... i hate the way i have to do pictures here by moving them down then they get stuck... let's see how the other way goes...

These are just a start of links... i'll keep adding to this post and comment to it when i add. I'm only learning myself... I'm just going by what I'm reading on the web. There are many many more publishers and agents out there... just google them... all agents and publishers take different genres of books... what might be ok in my list won't be for you if you are writing something totally different.

Some tips I've found out since I've started down this new path...

You must read each publisher's submissions' guidelines first. Check back often as they change regularly.

Check to see if they take email query letters or snail mail ones, or both.

Never send your manuscript unless it's specified to do so.

Do not self publish unless it's just for family.

Revise, revise, revise, and then ask around to see if someone will proofread your manuscript for you.

Do not state your age in your query letter.

Follow the guidelines of your query letter to a "T". Any mistakes could mean rejection.

I'll keep adding to the tips as i think of them.

Sore Day...

I've been gardening today... my muscles are still sore lol and it's 1:20 in the morning here. I also was able to garden yesterday at my home, but the ground was way too hard for My Oldest Daughter and I to do anything, so we tidied up the garden and finished. Well, it was also freezing cold *snort* and today is yet, another freezing day on Prince Edward Island... but no black flies... it's always a good thing :D

Watched Left Behind tonight with the kids. I loved it and i really did like the message. Not sure if that's who it'll happen, but it still makes one think. Kirk Cameron played in it. I loved him in it. Love him anyway! lol He also played in Fireproof ... awesome movie too! Great message in it.

Must hit the hay, early start tomorrow :)

Oh! I saw something on TV which made me have a new idea for a little book :) I think i'll write while it's fresh... you never know!

I'm so thrilled to have that part finished :D Tomorrow I'll read it out loud to My Youngest and see how it sounds... do more revising, then I'll leave it for a while for a break to make it "new" to me :)
I know i get bored reading the same story over and over. This should make it fun lol... and it'll make it easier to find mistakes in the story if i read it with fresh eyes after a while.

Next move?... I make my list for sending out my query letter. Agents and publishers. Pray for me! It'll be so nerve wrecking lol
I've subscribed to this magazine... Writer's Digest my first issue hasn't arrived, but i can't wait to see it!

My friend send me a poster he made for my book... i think he did another awesome job! Thanks so much for it! I love how he thought of using one of Anne of Green Gable's quotes on it :D He knows me so well lol

Quicky Update... sent my 2nd query letter out... this company wanted the manuscript... so it's gone to it's very first query! oh this is nervewrecking! I gave them a 2 week exclusive... we'll see what happens.

Well, my books arrived yesterday and i took them to Indigo book store and to Pharmasave in Souris, and Elliotts up here nea r where i live. It's so weird that they are actually here for sale :D The Manager at Indigo remembered me from over a month ago and remembered the story as i told it to her ! I couldn't believe it . If i sell the 10 copies before the month is out then they'll keep selling the books, if not then they won't. So of course, I'm hoping they sell lol

I haven't had a chance to get my list of publishers or agents out, but hopefully tomorrow.

A dear friend made a couple wallpapers for me from my blog... he's so kind and nice... and

the wallpapers are unbelievable! He totally knows me and understands my likes. He's awesome and gave me permission to share them on my blog.

I'm so excited! Of course she said no :D but i don't care... she replied :D and i've read that i'll get 20 - 50 rejections before i hit the right one :D Now i can send my query out to more than one agent ...

I wish she'd have said yes, but i get it :) it's all good.

Now to make another list :)

Oh and i got some gardening done today! It's a great day so far :D

2nd book finished

I finished book 2 !! Yay! Still a long way to go with it yet, lots of revising and changing ideas and characters :D But it's all fun. Today i'll be moving the story from my yellow pad to the computer. I love to write with pencil first. I do hate working on the computer, but i guess i have to get used to it.

No word on my first query that i sent out yet... but it hasn't been a week yet and they said to give them the exclusive for 2 weeks.

The sun is trying hard to win the fight against the clouds... clouds winning so far, but hopefully not for long.

I'll go grab a picture so you all can see PEI in early May :D ... ok, it went on, but sure doesn't look right from this box... This is my magnolia and my forsythia together... my camera is taking the pictures so bright... i'll have to read the directions on how to stop that from happening.

Well, my sis in law asked me to write a children's poem and they are going to turn it into a song. I kept putting it off, not knowing where to start... then decided to give it a try.
Here they are...

This is the children's poem... i looked at My Youngest Daughter and thought, "what kind of song would you like?" then it hit me *ouch* a song about her day!

I Thank God

When I wake up at the break of dawn
I jump out of bed with a great big YAWN
I help make my bed to start off my day,
and I thank God for hearing me pray.

After my dinner in the bright noons' light
I help my mama tidy then shout, "All Right!"
We go outside to work and play
and I thank God for love everyday.

It's suppertime; the sun's going away
I help my dad cook and holler, "O Kay!"
We gather around sitting in place
and I thank God when i say Grace.

Sleep time comes, tuck me in tight,
I snuggle down cozy, whispering, "Good Night"
I say my prayers and give mama a kiss
and I thank God for all of THIS .

2nd Poem... I was sitting here by my window, looking out at my gardens, and thought they already are a poem... so i wrote what i felt...

My Strength

My garden is my haven
It's my place to talk with God
He is always there to guide me
and strengthen my weary heart
when life gets too heavy.

Those dear flowers!
So thoughtful, caring and true
Putting on their modest show
for me, their kindred soul.

Butterflies flutter; love everywhere
like sparkling bubbles floating in the air
I watch them flying blithily
forgetting the heartaches of that hurtful day

So plant yourself a garden
The decision is up to you
God will be there waiting

I'm about to leave to go do mom and dad's gardens and pruning. It'll be fun... plus i'll hopefully get some stories from them. I'm going to try to write a book on their lives when they were little. I really think it'll be a good thing. I'm very excited about it.

I've also been trying to low carb all week... been only able to do it in the mornings, as i have to make dinner for the men, but it's a start. I really should change the name of this blog to a smorgasbord of everything lol I've found some of my paperdoll friends blog too! It's so cool :D

Back to the low carbing... today's dinner was chicken thighs, broccoli and turnip fries with alfredo sauce on the side. wow! it was yummy! I'm going to get my pizza dough made for during the week, it's not real dough, but low carb and very yummy! I should have taken a picture of the dinner before i ate it... bear with me, i'll get used to posting the pics lol

My Magnolia...

I have my camera, but it was dead... Avery got enough life out of it to get a pic of my magnolia...

Once it charges, I'll take another pic... and i'll keep my camera with me always :)

I also found my Green Gables walk pictures from my birthday on it... but the camera had some setting on it that brightened all the pics :( but i took 2 videos and they turned out, so I'll put them on my face book.

I had a thought last night for a new idea for a book... no fairies... real people... I started writing it and like it so far :D

My First Query is Sent!

Well, i did it. My first query letter is sent... i did a little more tweaking to it and clicked send before i could chicken out. I know this one won't be accepted as it's the first, but the first has got to start somewhere :) I wish it would be accepted though lol ... now the wait...

For this agent, yes, i decided to give it a try ... the main reason is because they accept self publishers... i had to take the chance while i had it. ... but i have to give her the exclusive for 2 weeks... and i did... so in 2 weeks i can send out another query.

I could put a picture here of the cover of my book I Believe I Can Fly - Rilla's Ramblings My daughter did the illustrations for the people and fairies and i did the backgrounds and coloring. This isn't the exact cover, the publishing company put a border around it.

That's all i did this afternoon after homeschooling with my youngest... we were working on the alphabet :) we found a cute song on You Tube to help her with singing the alphabet while i was typing. My youngest loved it! When she was bored of singing, i got her to go around the room finding items that matched a letters sound... she did all right, but we need to do more work on sounds. I've learned to take my time with my last baby.

My hubby isn't happy with where i put my new tea set... on a round table in front of our picture window... i'm luvin' it, but he says something will happen to it... i just want to enjoy it for a while :) If i had my camera i could take a picture to show you, but the kids love to take it and not put it back.

My magnolia tree is blooming beside my forsythia bush.. they are so pretty together. I might be able to get my son to get a pic with his phone as it's still bright outside... i can get him to take a pic of my tea table at the same time yay!

What's next after Query letter?...

well, today's job is making a list of publishers and/or agents who i'd like to send my query too. Thankfully i've been doing this for the past month, but will have to make sure i meet their guidelines. Some publishers change. I've found 3 or 4 bloggers who are agents, and they let me know when they are ready for querys, which i really like.

I'm still trying to figure out if i need an agent... i'll have to keep thinking about that.
My Dear Allie is helping me with my manuscript... i'll be working on that too, on the computer i should say... i usually work with pencil and paper, but this means computer work lol... it's so hard to get used to typing stories on the computer, but i'll do it lol

11:07 here on PEI... must get dinner soon. Then tidy and get my almost 5 year old's workbook out too for her to work at while mommy works too ;)

but first, i should mention about my problem yesterday with s - - - - - - the eight legged insects... my friend in Scotland usses this spray (cool! another link!!) .. she says it works awesome... so i'm going to try it out. I'm desperate lol.

Query Letter Written!

Well, i did it! It's now written... not sure how i did... i have a friend checking it over. There are sure to be mistakes as it's my first one. I was doing ok, til the wait lol and i only just sent it lol ... ok, was held up... and it's fixed.. tomorrow i'll be listing publishers and agents and see who gets my letter first. oh dear!!!

Got the living room, kitchen and half of the dining room/ rilla's play area spider proofed today.. .i'm getting there! lol

Tuesday Lost Day...

Well, yesterday i had a tea party with my sis and her daughter and my 2 daughters... it was such fun! But i had to clean and clean to get ready.. which didn't give me time to work on my query letter... then my son had a ton of homework and studying with homework and tests... then cleaning up in the evening which still isn't done, so no time for query's oh! and my all time favorite show was on... Lost! yay :D enough said on Lost... i was mad at it lol

This morning is for cleaning, it's spring time and that means the s - - - - - s are out, and i'm petrified of those horrid things! I've got to give the house a vacuum everywhere, and then i'll spray lemon pledge around the baseboards... i heard that'll help keep them away. ick ick!!!

Then it's dinner time... i'll make something quick for the men and clean up, find something for My youngest to do, THEN i'll work on my query! I've a homeschool lady who knows query's and she's going to look it over for me , and my dear own Allie was a proofreader, so she's going to check my self published book's new manuscript for flaws... i'm having a problem staying in the same tense... it's so hard, but i'm ready to learn :) (just tried my first linking with Allie's blog... she's teaching me how to blog... now did i do it right lol)

I'm still trying to figure out what to do after i get the query letter ready... send to an agent or straight to the publisher... i'm leaning toward the publisher for now since i'm new... but also do i lean toward the agent because i'm new???

I've written out my query 3 times so far, and reading online as i go ... so i'll go start vacuuming and pledging, dinner, tidy up, then query time... i'm actually excited to get back to it now... the nervewrecking feeling is gone :) isn't that something!

well, it wasn't my books to pick up, but my birthday present :) I'm a Lucy Maud Fan and a friend, Lisa, put on facebook a picture of her teaset. This teaset reminded me very much of Lucy Maud's Aunt's tea set that's in Green Gables. (I'm pretty sure this is the original owner) so my husband bought it for my birthday... Back on track lol... Lesson 2: i'm writing my query letter now... i'm stuck ... i don't know to tell them that my book was self published or not... but am trying to find the answer. Lots of Googling :) I was so nervous writing it, but not that i'm doing it... actually doing it, i feel so much better.

Was talking to someone on the phone today who told me there's a lady she knows who might proofread for me. That'll be great, as the self published book wasn't proofread.

Notes on Query Letter:
Don't go over 1 page or 2 paragraphs...( i am finding this so hard)
Get the book idea into the first 2 sentences. (did that)
Tell how you plan to handle and develop the manuscript (not sure what to say here)
Error Free and single spaced
Strong opening to grab attention
Let them know if there are illustrations available
Request to write the article on the go ahead to send the book proposal...(book proposal... now that's going to be hard!)
Double space between paragraphs
Tell them if there will be multiple submissions.

First Blog Ever!

Boy this is nervewrecking! lol A thought came to me the other day... start a blog... I've read some great blogs, and subbed to them too... but could never remember the links after that ... until my dear friend Allie told me about Google Reader... i found it and boy it's addicting! lol I love Google Reader, it makes reading so easy, no more remembering links. Until the thought came to me to start my own on my journey to getting published... i didn't think anyone would want to read it, but then realized... i want it for me... and there might, just might be someone out there like me who wants to know how to do this. So i'm writing it down... if i learn something, i'll write it. Haven't figured out how to link to Amazon on the books i'm reading, or how to link to sites that i'm reading, but i'll figure it out.

First lesson... Do NOT self publish unless you just want a few books for family and friends. It's going to make it harder... now some authors make it through self publishing... but it's best to go about it straight to a publisher or agent. Now i might read something that says it's ok, but so far nothing lol

I've recently self published my book... I Believe I Can Fly - Rilla's Ramblings. I'm now revising it. I didn't know that Xlibris did not proofread, my fault, i should have done my homework. Because of this, there are mistakes, as i wrote it fast to get it sent in before the deadline. I lost track of time, a year actually lol and was rushed. Never rush yourself lol ... so because of not being proofread, we had to pay for the mistakes... twice. I gave the ok to publish then found a couple more mistakes, but it was too late, and we were out of money for corrections anyway. 2 weeks without buying groceries doesn't go well in a family of 6. so my book is out there. I love it if you ignore the mistakes :) My daughter did the illustrations, with me doing the backgrounds and coloring. She did an awesome job i think!

I ordered 250 books from Xlibris and am on my way to pick them up. It's exciting i must say. Then i give them to stores that will sell them for me.
